Chen Taiji Silk Reeling

Beginners and Improvers will be introduced to Chen Style Silk Reeling Exercises  in the  2025 Autumn Term in preparation for learning a Chen Taiji form (Sequence).

Silk Reeling is the foundation way of movement in Chen Style Taiji , which everything else in Chen Taiji  is built upon. It must be  understood and correctly trained into the body if the pratitioner is to have true Taiji/ Tai Chi skill

We do not recommend that you select  videos  at chance from you Tube to follow as there is so much incorrect tai chi on that platform and you may be training an incorrect technique.  However you can currently click the pic of Cherry  for a video of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei's silk reeling exercises and follow those.  Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei is a Chen family descendant and a current lineage holder of Chen Style tai chi. He is Cherry's teacher's teacher, with whom Cherry's teacher lived and trained with, in the traditional Chinese way of learning Taiji, from the age of 11.

Cherry will produce some tutorial videos of Silk Reeling  soon. These will be added to the video channel  - see Qigong section below for details on this

QIGONG

We will also be covering Qigong/ChiKung exercises.

The sets we are covering in class this term are:

Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong

and then
Yi Jin Jing Health Qigong

The term 'Qigong' covers a VAST spectrum of exercises, 5000 year's worth in fact so stumbling across the right video performed correctly on you tube is highly unlikely and is not recommended.

Our Video Channel

For home practice we recommend that you subscribe to the East Riding Tai Chi video library .

There are individual tutorial videos for each Qigong movement which you'll learn in class, where Cherry explains each movement in detail as she demonstrates, with follow-me front and back views.

How to Access the Videos

There is a small fee to view our video tutorial channel. This is £10 per month for people who DON'T attend our classes, but if you have a live class subscription you will receive TWO  calendar months video access for the £10 fee, thus  giving you half-price access.   (eg if you subscribe on say 12th October, you will receive the password(s) for the remainder of October and all of November.

Unlike YouTube videos, our channel is hosted on  a platform called Vimeo and is advert-free, so nothing will interrupt your practice.

The password is provided within 24 hours after subscribing  to the video  channel.
